The Standard Bylaws that govern the Water Co-op state; 3(1) Annual meetings of the association must, within 120 days after the conclusion of each fiscal year of the association, be held on a day and at an hour and place decided by the board. (The fiscal year end of the Water Co-op is Sept. 30th.)
- Make sure you attend; this only happens once a year and your voice and vote count. Apathy is the surest way to degrade a community.
- Become familiar with the Rural Utility Act and Standard Bylaws.
- If you have any questions about bylaws, please contact Maureen.Magee@gov.ab.ca .
- Any items to be voted on at the AGM must be in your hands at least 21 days before the meeting to give you plenty of time to understand what the issue(s) is about.
- Come prepared with your questions.
- In our community, the one slate of board members works for both the Community Association and the Water Co-op. It is very important to remember that the Community Association and the ERE Water Co-op are two separate legal entities with two separate bank accounts.
- Becoming a member of the Community Association is optional and based on a $5/year fee (see bylaws in the Community Association section).
- Becoming a member of the Water Co-op is at the homeowners’ discretion and is charged a yearly fee for water usage (see lawsuit and appeal verdicts in the Water Co-op section).
